Competition, innovation, and financial inclusion
In the last few years, the world has experienced a technology revolution in financial services. From web-banking to mobile banking, to machine-learning credit decisions, to open finance, and real-time payments. Understanding and leveraging the full potential of technology opens an avenue of oportunities to improve services, bring more people to the financial system, and streamline the real economy. At the same time, as such a regulated and complex market, the potential for policymakers to balance its forces towards the public interest is huge. As are the risks if the regulatory intervention is not systemically fine tuned. In this research project, we explore the systemic effects of regulatory interventions in the financial market to promote competition, innovation, and financial inclusion.
